Welcome to Sullivant Hall—one of The Ohio State University’s most interesting historical buildings!

You are standing directly below what was once the main entrance to the Archeological and Historical Museum, which opened in 1913.

Built by the Ohio State Historical Society, the east wing facing High Street is the original grand neoclassical building that housed and displayed a collection of artifacts, papers and books documenting Ohio’s early settlers and settlement. When originally built, massive stone steps led from High Street to the main entrance and central rotunda on what is now the building’s second floor. These can be seen in the 1915 photograph shown on this page. When remodeled in 2014, the exterior staircase and the floor of the original rotunda were removed to create a ground floor entrance lit by the beautiful stained glass skylight overhead.
